OSCEng, the
Occupational Standards Council for Engineering, is a voluntary, employer-led
association of parties sharing a commitment to the development of a coherent
framework of Occupational Standards and, with Awarding Bodies, qualifications
across the full range of engineering occupations. Members are
drawn from employers, Sector Skills Councils and equivalent bodies, Trade Unions, employer
organisations, academia, EC (UK), engineering professional
Institutions and other parties involved in setting standards of performance for
engineering.
OSCEng
became operational in September 1996. The principal activities for OSCEng are:
-
Development, maintenance, promotion and management of the implementation of
generic occupational standards for engineering
-
The
Maudslay
Initiative, a major new industry-led project that seeks to establish
formal links between the 'risk' associated with the design, manufacture,
installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of engineering
components, products, structures and systems and the competence required of
those working with the components, products, structures and systems. See
also the Press Release on the NEWS page for further
information about the project and how to become involved.
-
Provision of Secretariat services for Implementation
Groups, chaired by SEMTA (the UK Sector Skills Council covering science,
engineering and manufacturing technologies) and responsible for the development and support of
GCSE
(school) qualifications and Programmes of Study in Applied Science, Engineering and Manufacturing.
As
an organisation OSCEng is:
-
Employer
led
-
Responsive
to the engineering and manufacturing sectors; and to the engineering requirements of all
